To: tracor who wrote (43971 ) 4/6/2003 7:16:14 PM From: IQBAL LATIF Respond to of 50167 RZ, It is my pleasure and today the jubiliation and welcome the people in Basra gave the Royal Marines after the icons of tyranny were flushed out of Basra, have laid to rest the myth of whether it was a war of liberation or occupation. If the spontaneounity of the demonstrations as thousands of people came out to cheer the Royal Marines with emotion and love indicates only one thing that it is not the Islamic street who will decide what the Iraqi people want . It is the people of Iraq who are going to decide whether these forces will help them or resist them instead. Once the small clique around Saddam Hussein who are the perpetrators of all the crimes against humanity were liquidated the people came out on street, those who were cynical about claims that the citizens will garland the troops are hopefully disappointed.. It took 17 days for the occupation of Basra to finalise however every child and every woman had a glow of happiness on their faces, the first round after Umm Qasr and Al Zubair have been won. If these scenes continue to repeat, the myth that this is a war to eliminate Iraq or a war against the people of Iraq will perish. We have taken a position from day 1 that tyrants have subjucated and terrified poverty stricken people of Iraq and toothless United Nations would not have done anything. Neither the Arab regions around Iraq as all of them have vested interest to see Iraq continue to exist and wallow in their self created misery. Iraqi dictatorship encourages despotism all around the Middle East and the biggest threat of newly gain freedom of Iraq will be felt by Syrians and states of Arabian peninsula. Men are born equal and they should not be put in chains. Unfortunately the Islamic world and Arab street due to their own vested interest, for the sake of glory of Islam which they think is the true Islam consider any suppression of these tyrants and icons of tyranny as suppression of Islam. Prophet Mohammed once said to raise a sword against a ruler who is unjust and unfair to its people is the biggest jihad, Saddam who has been unfair and help mutilate Iraqis in the last 4 decades needed such surgical removal. The UN has shown its toothlessness, when 8000 Muslims were killed in Sebrenica and whose bodies were just buried last week. UN peacekeeper watched quietly as 8000 human beings were killed in cold blood. UN Security Council resolutions are a joke and were effective only when it was backed by 250000 men in the Gulf. The moment the force is taken back, Saddam would have reneged on all his promises, like he has done post 1991. It is very easy for states who have not participated in removal of this tyranny, that Saddam has been and was cooperating when show of force was depicted but noone wanted to ask, how much resources can be wasted to bring Saddam to action on an annual basis. No coalition forces have resources to bring every year to force Saddam enact UN resolutions. Threat of force is the only language he understands and he always thought that diplomacy would save him. He underestimated the resolve of US this time. Post 9 11 the world has changed. Either UN will react or it will become a useless organisation. Peace in the Middle East will only come if all parties in the region will incorporate respect for each other in their constitution. How can we expect UN resolutions or nations of Middle East abiding by those resolutions unless they dont give the basic right to their people. The Iraqis were not just denied freedom but were forced to live in poverty, a poverty that is avoidable, lack of education, opportunities lead to human time bombs like we have seen in Palestine. Inequalities have to be removed in the world, Iraq needs to be a prosperous nation and they need to have some comfort since poverty stricken nations have more than even chances to become radically aggressive. Radical aggression leads to major disasters around the world. If it can be helped in present day and age, humanity must join hands to remove this inequality around the world. Inequality leads to extremism, terrorism and anti social behaviour. Iraq under Saddam would have been a fertile ground for terrorists and extremists, by incorporating freedom, mass education, clean water, equal health and pacifist agenda for the nation, Iraq will become prosperous like Kabul. Hundreds of Thousands of women are getting educated, peace niks are least bothered by massive improvements to the women folk in Afghanistan and huge eradication of inequality that is going to happen in Iraq. The nest of terrorism, post 9 11, in Afghanistan, Pakistan and inequalities in Middle East nation where Iraq was the most active member of the rejectionist states are being addressed. The consequences of these far reaching actions and what I call exterior defense of the nations of the world, is the reason for this whole exercise. One group who will really benefit from the tragic events of the last 17 days will be the people of Iraq. I am confident that although innoncent civilians have suffered pain and death, but the slow death of the nation has finally come to an end.
