OT,
While it's still too early to call, I think the scenario of a "relatively quick" outcome for the Iraqi conflict is currently playing out. This could lead the US business community away from the wait-and-see stance and into one where investment can move forward.

Personally, I would like to see the US leadership encourage such a change in attitude immediately after the fighting has finished. A concerted effort to change the media's focus from war and terrorism back towards the economy would be a major step in the right direction. We don't have to reduce our efforts to secure our nation from terrorist threats but we should make every effort to remove the "emotional dark clouds" that currently exist and which are being constantly reinforced by "the hawks". Were we to see such a shift, I think there is a solid chance that we can avoid a serious recession, one which appears to be looming on the horizon once again.
