He could be tried in absentia. The importance is to gain a verdict that would support the actions of the Iraqi people to overthrow him.

The Iraqi people need no reason to overthrow him. And the UN is not that effective. It is always way to late and lets the battles and wars rage for awhile before they even start to interfere. Saddam knew this as did any other dictator in the last half century. This thread and the UN and France and all this talk about taking more time was just allowing Saddam more time. His time has run out.:)

Now, I realize how naive you are. Tried in absentia? Total waste of time, like most of what the U.N. does. The people of Iraq couldn't overthrow him until his thugs were made ineffective. This war was the only way to get rid of him. Now, the USA and the rest of the coalition will have respect throughout the world instead of being seen as a bunch of pussies as during Clinton's regime.
