That last article that I posted indicates that a huge shakeout is still likely for software, and that it has barely even begun (albeit that the article was written in November of 2002). On the other hand, it seems to me that you have been telling us that a recovery in software is here or imminent for about the last twelve months, but I can't remember what your rationale was. Personally, I find the logic in the last article compelling. I await the shakeout.

Perhaps Siebel with its leading market share position in CRM and strong cash position will be a survivor, but I wouldn't nibble on it yet. Besides lots of competition, Siebel also has to overcome the considerable problem of learning how to operate profitably in a world that is slowly coming to the realization that stock option compensation is a legitimate expense. And I am not sure Tom Siebel is up to that challenge. For all I know, he just may just decide take his bubble winnings to Montana and retire.
