Why do we need to spend so much on weapons?
Who is running this show?

"Global annual military spending was 780 billion dollars in 1999, 840 billion dollars in 2001 and is on target for one trillion dollars, according to U.N. estimates."

Here are some of the absurd facts of military spending according to this article -http://allafrica.com/stories/200304070129.html

"Mankind already has the means to annihilate itself several times over."

"The cost of a modern bomber prototype equals the salaries of 250,000 teachers for one year, or the construction and equipment cost of 75 hospitals with 100 beds each. The price of a nuclear submarine equals the annual cost of sending 16 million children to school in underdeveloped countries, or the cost of building 400,000 homes for 2 million people. The money spent on a modern tank could pay for the construction of 1,000 classrooms for 30,000 children in Third World countries."

"For every 100,000 inhabitants in the world there are 556 soldiers and 85 doctors."

Can't the citizens who are paying the taxes to support this arms spending demand some of the money be diverted to solve some of the worlds problems another way?

We must have the brainpower on this earth to resolve this disgusting way to solve conflicts. Lets start think tanks and get this done is my suggestion.
