plus record number of Tx. congressional seats were turned from Dems to Republicans:

Election results have now been collected from all 254 Texas counties. In addition to sweeping the statewide seats for the fourth consecutive election, Republicans gained.

2 congressional seats and hold 15 of 32 - a record number.

3 state senate seats and hold 19 of 31 - a record number.

16 state house seats and hold 88 of 150 - tied for the largest net gain
ever and the first majority in 130 years.

A record 210 county level offices across the state, including 20 county
judge seats and 42 county commissioner seats.
Republicans now have controlling majorities in 73 county courthouses.
More than Two thirds of all Texans live in a county where Republicans
have a majority on the commissioners' court.

Texans choose GOP's "Proven Leadership Team"
Nov 6, 2002

Texas Republicans once again made historic gains on all levels in the
2002 election, Texas GOP Chairman Susan Weddington said today.

"This is a historic victory for Texas Republicans. The people of Texas
have entrusted Republicans with every statewide office, a record number
of state senate seats, the first state house majority in 130 years, and
more congressional and county level offices than ever before," said
Weddington. "Texans have continued to place their trust in the proven,
experienced leadership that the Republican Party offers. The people of
Texas know that Republican leaders, like Rick Perry, John Cornyn and
David Dewhurst are best qualified to address the critical issues facing
our state and have once again embraced the GOP's positive, conservative
vision for the future."

Republicans swept all statewide seats for the fourth consecutive
election, gained 2 congressional seats, 3 state senate seats, 1 district
court seat, and 15 or 16 state house seats. Additionally, a preliminary
analysis indicates that the GOP gained at least 62 county level seats,
and increased the number of county courthouses with a Republican
majority by 8 (results have been collected from 104 of 254 counties).

"Pundits have wondered for the past several years whether Texas is a
Bush state or a Republican state," said Weddington. "Today the verdict
is in. Not only is Texas the original George W. Bush state, it is one of
the strongest Republican states in the nation as well."

"We said all along that this election would be won precinct-to-precinct,
block-to-block and person-to-person by motivated and hardworking
Republican volunteers," said Congressman Henry Bonilla, Chairman of
Texas Victory 2002, the coordinated statewide Republican effort. "That
is where we focused our efforts and that is why we won across the board
statewide."

From January 1, 2001 to October 28, 2002, the Texas Democrat Party
raised $17,610,989.50 million while the Republican Party of Texas raised
$12,810,844.74. Despite a $5 million fundraising disadvantage,
Republicans are likely to have won a net gain of over 100 seats across
the state.

John Kerry - "The Republicans have tried to make a practice of attacking anybody who speaks out strongly by questioning their patriotism. I refuse to have my patriotism or right to speak out questioned. I fought for and earned the right to express my views in this country. If they want to pick a fight, they've picked a fight with the wrong guy."
