You can judge the plan by whether or not it works - and you can conclude it worked better. But as to his role, his role is oversight and policy, not direction of field operations.

BTW, I think that Rumsfield makes a very good military commander, if indeed it was his plan and not Franks, as alleged.

It kindof looks like that now, but lets not forget that those supply lines were left unprotected and a bunch of unprepared maintenance people were killed and captured as a result. I'm talking about Jessica Lynch's unit. The avg age of that maintenance crew seems like about 20. The parents of the soldiers killed in that unit say they were surprised their sons were in active combat. They thought their kids had "desk jobs". The real soldiers were occupied at the front of the line.
