There is a huge cultural component of the Israel/Palestine situation that involves a deep sense of attachment to the land itself.
Here in the US mobility is so great that such attachments do not exist. The ability to understand the sentiments toward ancestral lands should be a key component in any solution to the Israel/Palestine situation.
I don't think either side would accept a solution that involves moving away from land to which both sides have a culturally ingrained attachment.
