.doc files don't usually disappear. is there a named file that you can search for directly rather that *.*.doc? have you tried opening up my computer, and then opening up mydocuments, to see if its in a sub directory that somehow got created? is a confusing one. good luck. larry

Regarding your missing Word documents, you have probably tried this but I will ask just to be sure. When you are in Word go to File/Open and you will see the "Open" window. At the top where it says "Look in" it should say "My Documents". Now go to the bottom of that window where it says "Files of Type" and click the drop-down arrow at the right and select "All Files (*.*)". That way you will see EVERY file in My Documents, not just the ones with the .doc extension. Maybe your lost files will show up with a different file extension.

Good luck
Dan

Problems with User Profiles and My Documents Folder

Clicking the Documents Command on the Start Menu Does Not Open Files Located in a Subdirectory of the My Documents Folder

(i love the resolution in this kb article... "To resolve this issue, upgrade to Microsoft Windows 2000.")

re, "Would it be prudent to reload MS Word on top of this one to see if anything changes?"

good question. my opinion would be to not reload on top, at least not until you have exhausted as many "recovery" attempts as you and others here can come up with.
