I thought you were telling me I was elitist and pompous. My apologies for inferring the wrong message. I didn't think either one of us- in the previous conversation- was being elitist or pompous (to be completely fair). I DO think there is no way to get away from being invaders- and the denotation really leads the connotation (imo)- so when you are doing something that is obviously in line with the denoted meaning of a word you have to take the connotation as well. I thought maybe you thought it was pompous of me to say that, and I'm tired of apologizing for owning a dictionary and wanting to define terms. :-)

Semantic fallacies are INCREDIBLY common on SI, but when you call someone on one, or on a simple failure to use a word correctly, people act like only eggheads should use dictionaries! I teach ALL my students that communication is meaningless if you don't define terms, or if you are unwilling to define terms.

PS- I'm antiwar too (or at least anti this war)
