I totally back the troops. No less than you. I just dont back Bush now that 9-11 is over. I backed Bush after 9-11 though, all the way through Afghanistan and up until last summer when he blatantly used the Iraq War to steal the November elections.

As General Wesley Clark said the other night "The troops expect and accept criticism of the policy-makers, just not criticism of the troops themselves". Our troops are not at all political. They obey their commanders no matter what party they're from. And a surprising amount of them will vote for John Kerry next year. You'll see. Our troops dont like deserters who go AWOl for a whole year when it's their turn to fight.

David Re... find the term "I support the troops" to be one of the most shallow, meaningless, hollow and offensive statements a damned anti-war liberal can make.

Frankly, I think you are wrong here. You can be both. Yes, some protestors have gone over the line, like the ones yesterday, trying to block supplies for our troops; but that doesn't mean every war protestor has gone over the line.. As long as he sticks to protesting the policies, not the troops, I don't have a problem with it.

You "back the troops" so long as seven innocent women & children aren't shot dead. But "backing the troops" quickly turns to "blaming the troops" ... just like ted did here last week.

First, country boy, get this loud and clear.......I was not blaming the troops. If there was any finger pointing on my part, it was directed at Rummy.

Secondly, what I did was post articles in which Rummy's war plan was crticized by both active and ret. generals. Some of their complaints proved to be valid. To his credit, Rummy corrected two of the major complaints that were leveled at his plan.

So back off, country boy.
