Hate is still hate. War is still a part of the fallen world in which we live ... God is still sovreign over ALL nations. I think Bush is sincere. I don't discount his sincerity or his authority or his faith. The only thing that changed, IMO, on 9/11 is that Americans found out they were no longer priveleged and isolated from international conflicts -- that they cannot wage war from a distance -- international actions have repurcussions. I was not against attacking OBL. Certainly that was justified if the admin had information, but the idea that we can hit everybody before they hit us is untenable -- the natural outcome of it is a reign of terror by us. My prayer to God is that He will simply do what He always does and has promised us He will do -- bring good for His chosen out of a situation that appears futile in the sight of men. I pray that the hearts and minds of more Arabian peoples might be opened to Him. On the face of it, that seems hard to conceive while we are bombing them, invading them -- but it isn't impossible with God. Nations are in the hand of God, including the US. We can not boast on our righteousness for one second or think that by sheer strength we will prevail. That is a lie and is death, but He has had mercy, if we accomplish anything there. There is no escaping the fact that God allowed 9/11 -- answering why is very hard -- I don't have all the answer, but I am not afraid to ask the question. One answer that does not compute for me is the following: 9/11 happened so that we would wake up and clean out the evil external to the US. Again, Bush's statement about a day of reckoning for Sadam gives me great pause. Who, but God alone, can truly have a day of reckoning??! Our attack on Iraq is an issue separate from 9/11 entirely ... Bush can be sincere and be sincerely mistaken. Bush may be directly, or indirectly, carrying out the will of God. I do not know at this pt. I pray for success. All of the goals, as expressed by W, are laudable in themselves -- freedom for Iraqis -- removal of an awful dictator -- supposed removal of a threat to us (I'm not sure I buy it -- haven't seen any proof) -- more stability to the region, BUT superior weapons, intellect or national pride on the part of the US alone cannot obtain these goals, IMO. Whether these things are ultimately obtained depend on who has really directed this action. In the interim, many will die, may more Iraqi civillians than might have died had other means have been used. We will not know. Humility is the way to peace ... I deplore war (even when necessary), but fully support the right of nations to provide for a common defense for their people. I just don't see that as having anything to do with the conflict in Iraq.
