BUT: We had Kuwait. And we had the southern Iraqi oil fields. If this is just an oil war, why didn't we simply keep them?

Water? If you have sufficient energy (oil) you can desalinate sea water. That's what the Saudis do.

Actually, Lazaros Short thinks this war is about sand. He figures by invading countries in the Middle-East, we can corner the world market on sand. We can then export it for a premium to island resorts in the Carribean.

I tell you, Laz has all this figured out. He's our Village Idiot.
