Blah, blah, blah.

Mere BS when cold hard facts prove you wrong.

I believe that the Republicans have arrived at a winning formula. They have adopted the same policy as the administration: the preemptive strike. Their incessant attacks on the 'leftists' are straight out of Marketing 101: Branding. They are 'branding' anyone on the left as traitors, 'branding' themselves as heroes (by close association with *real* heroes), and 'branding' the New Republican party as the party of strength.

It is a good ploy. Post 9/11 has shown that people may be willing to forgo basic freedoms in exchange for a sense of security. They are appealing to more base instincts, and it appears to be working.

They are also taking nothing for granted, attacking candidates right out of the chute. Kerry made a blunder with his 'regime change' comment, not because it in itself was wrong, but that it allowed the twin attack dogs of right-wing talk radio and FOX News to begin 'branding' him.

We'll see if any Democrat can rise above this branding campaign and emerge as a strong candidate. However, it is apparent that the left suffers from lack of a similar marketing apparatus.
