Tommy Franks is not Bush's man, he's the military's man. He was there under Clinton and will be there under Kerry.

In our democracy the military does not belong to the president. Generals are not appointed by the White House. Bush is not a dictator like Saddam. And he knows little about military affairs.

Rumsfield is Bush's man, but sometimes it's the other way around, Rumsfield and Cheney may have more power than Bush does. Obviously they're the only ones with experience waging wars, though neither of them ever served in combat and Cheney dodged the draft like Bush.

Let us never forget who got us into Viet Nam and who made it a quagmire. Maybe that is why the words Viet Nam come to a Democrat's mind when he or she hears the word war.
