You may have noticed that sensible liberals who post here are treated with respect, if not by everyone, at least by me. You may also have noticed that these same liberals have distanced themselves from you. There's a reason for that. You don't understand the essay question, so I'll rephrase it for you with a hypothetical example. Remember, hypothetical examples are rarely accurate. Take however long you want, but please refrain from illogical ranting, attacks on "Bushies", etc. Stick to the essay, in other words. Here we go: You paid $3,000 in federal tax last year. You also have the ability to dictate where the government should spend that $3,000 (hypothetically). You also have the right to use a credit card with a one million dollar limit. There is a line outside your house of people who want the money. One is a CFO of a drug company that wants $300 as compensation for giving a discount to your retired mother for her medication. One is a Senator from your state that wants $300 for the repair of the highway next to your house. One is a drug addict that wants $300 for his welfare check even though he fraudulently applied for welfare. One is a single mom who is going to college and wants a loan for $300 to pay for day care. One is a "chickenhawk" (to use your word) who says he needs $300 to buy an airplane to protect you from some danger in a foreign land that you don't fully grasp (work with me on this one). One is a convicted criminal who wants $300 in exchange for information leading to the location of a terrorist that has your house on his list to be blown up (he claims). One is your kid, who wants $300 for college. One is a guy who wants to borrow $300 to expand his business. One is a guy who loaned you $300 and wants his money back. One is a Congressman who wants $300 to pay for his office so he can be a Congressman and help you with the plan to spend the money. Five are diplomats from France, Kuwait, Russia, Great Britain, and South Korea, all five want $300 just because they need it to help their respective countries, and you've been so helpful in the past. (All five already owe you $30,000 each.) Discuss who you give money to, how much, and why. Discuss what you think will happen if and when one or more of the people at your door doesn't get what they want. Discuss if you would borrow from your credit card, and how much, and why. Discuss your plan for getting the money back once it has left your pocket (if you think you should get it back). I should note that I don't expect you to answer this in any rational way. If you do, I'm not the only person who will be pleasantly surprised.
