well, all I can say it is unfortunate that you thought Chinese gov. was lying about it. They should have taken things more seriously, and the reason they haven't is because of inexperience, and some disconnection bet. the central gov. and provincial gov. and military hospitals.

GV & Thread, Bay Area CPI had a larger than normal uptick:

Two months 197.7 (up from 193.7 H2)

The uptick is equivalent to nearly an entire year's uptick:

data.bls.gov
(CPI-U) San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose

Annual 1990 Annual 1991 Annual 1992 Annual 1993 Annual 1994 Annual 1995 Annual 1996 Annual 1997 Annual 1998 Annual 1999 Annual 2000 Annual 2001 Annual 2002 Feb 2003
CPI-SF 132.1 137.9 142.5 146.3 148.7 151.6 155.1 160.4 165.5 172.5 180.2 191 193 197.7
% increase 4% 3% 3% 2% 2% 2% 3% 3% 4% 4% 6% 1% 2%

Regarding the bigger picture, there was some comment re: inflation on the radio this morning but missed what they said - probably an increase due to the past quarter's energy prices. ( Inflation is a small concern in a couple foreign countries. )
