There is no backpedling. Discount what you hear until you see it confirmed by Centcom. They are very careful not to get ahead of themselves. I think you will find that them to be very credible. It is the press front-running these stories to get viewers and readers who create the dashed expectations. Just watch.

Actually the NPR story I heard this am was when the soldier in the 101st took off the head of an artilery shell his hands started burning / blistering and he and his unit got out to wait for the specialists to handle.

From what I know there were two initial "discoveries" played up by the media but the central command was careful to play down expectations and wait for the testing.

I think they now have 3 finds they are waiting for test results.

IMO its only a matter of time and I'm sure this administration knows full well if there are no WMD they are toast in the next elections so while its a secondary objective its an importan one.

As they go through the paper, documents and interviews this stuff will be found and with imbedded reporters you know it won't be doctored.

I think NPR was setup for that weapons story. A mixture of facts from two different sites were fed to the reporter, who probably never left his hotel. There was two objectives.

1) Get the stations to report an incorrect "smoking gun" story to the soccer moms who listen to NPR. Other places could then just report that NPR said such & such and not have to actually make the claim or verify it.

2)Wreck the credibility of NPR which hasn't been reporting the standard Faux spin in all reports.

It could be worse, at least they didn't shoot a tank at him.

TP

<<Yesterday I heard news that sounded like WMD discovery twice- the first was an incredible story I heard on NPR in the morning, that US troops had found a site with Serin (?) gas and warheads. >>

Those were artillery shells with Sarin (nerve) and mustard (blister agent, gets in the lungs and keeps causing blisters until the victim drowns in the fluid)gasses in them. There have been some pretty credible reports of Sarin and mustard gasses plus ricin and botulism being found.

Centcom won't say a word until everything has been tested and double tested in the US and UK and maybe another country. Now some finds have been classed as pesticides. Did you know cide means death? Concentrated agricultural pesticides and herbicides are deadly.
