Saddam was nicely contained. Perhaps there was some justification for threatening military action so we could get the inspectors back into Iraq. But, we're certainly not justified for attacking him to reveal a few drums of chemical weapons. My god, the old Soviet Union is probably littered with such weapons. Saddam is probably the least of our worries regarding WMD, because he was under the world microscope. Sophisticated terrorists could obtain WMD elsewhere, like Russia, North Korea or Pakistan.

This War...

CIA and the Pentagon made an assesment on how easy it would be to topple Saddam. The Whitehouse did a cost/benefit analysis (i.e. oil revenues vs. cost of waging war). They made a decision to go for it and put up some sort of front for the invasion (i.e. terrorism/WMDs and Saddam being a threat to the World). Now we see the reality and how credible that case was (NOT!). US wants to install a puppet "interrum" regime with the promise of bringing full democracy to Iraq. We all know that 6-12 months from now this whole issue will be forgotten by the press and there'll be no effort to bring in western-style democracy (as is the case now in Afghanistan). Shrub will be busy campaigning in for '04, there'll be other issues to look at, other Terrorist threats to consider and other distractions. Nobody will care anymore for Iraq, except the big losers in this deal - the Iraqi people.

A previous poster posted that Democracy is now brought to Iraq on the blood of Americans and the British... That's a joke considering the 1000's of Iraqis that died in this war.
