Sarmad,

Who represents the Kurds? The Shiites?

You can see some of their dead here:

dhushara.com

Or are you just saying Sunni Arab deaths are important, but Kurdish and Shiite deaths are not?

Morality involves all life or it isn't moral. Its not just a Western vs Sunni Arab argument. The Baathist killing must stop and neither the Arab street nor their governments will do anything.

Yes - lots of Sunni's die, and some Shiites. After all the Baathists hide behind or mascarade as civilians.

Given the carnage caused internally by the Baath party and Saddam - what would you do?

a) intervene (but your against that)
b) use sanctions (but they kill as well)
c) drop sanctions (and support a dictator?)

Level set - As some one who has argued the moral case for intervention - I deplored our non-intervention in Rhwanda and supported the Clinton administrations actions in the Balkans.

If I were President - the UN would be discussing the Congo and if the French balked again - I would put some feet on the ground.

Call me a neoliberal :-)

John

For the picture you showed there are between 450000 and 1.5 mm others that are not shown, the extra deaths in the under 5 year olds estimated to be caused by Saddams regime in the last 7 years
This death rate has increased each year since 1978 under his rule
While in the North , under Kurdish rule the death rates have been reduced
This discusses how the sanctions were not working and how Saddam turned them to his advantage and the effect on the citizens.

When one goes beyond the emotion of dead baby pictures, one gets into dry statistics. When the action is over we can compare the losses resulting from our destruction of Mr Saddams war equipment, with the losses that would have occurred if he had been left in power.

Turn on the TV and smell the coffee. WMD finds to follow but when it happens you will charge that wmds were planted. Please explain why saddam didnt produce documentation of destruction if there were no wmds. You live in dreamworld while your countrymen lived in hell. They dont live in hell any more and regardless of wmds, that is a good thing. mike
