I was thinking the Icelandic population was innocent until I was reminded they were Vikings once :-)

The the DeCODE genetics project has data that says that the founding population of Iceland was approx. 5000 Nordic males and 15000 Irish females. The Irish women did not willing go to Iceland.

With Mao on their side, the USA could have cut through an awful lot of trouble later (so it seems to me). Just look where USA - China relations are today.
