It is not strange to see less handsets sold than the chipsets, the phone manufacturers are competing each other in the same market. As replacement rate accelerates we may see even wider margin between the numbers. JMHO

slacker - Samsung no longer a customer for 1x chips? What does that do for the business model?

That must be bind all this weakness. Seems to me that the loss of Samsung is pretty serious. Can Samsung sell 1X and W-CDMA chips to other manufacturers?

Best,

L

Are you counting new subscribers or new handsets in the region by region analysis? (the analysis is not important, I trust your numbers).

Rememeber that churn of only 3% would represent over 13,000,000 new handsets during the quarter, with no additional subscribers.

And the average user replaces their handset every 18 months, which would lead to an additional 24,000,000 upgraded handsets this quarter, with no additional subscribers.
