I was afraid this war would result in death and maiming of many innocent people. And it has.

That is what is seen. And you have made an effort to find and post examples of it here. What is also seen is the repression and torture that went on under Saddam that will no longer happen. One Marine was quoted today as saying that "He had been pelted by so many flowers that he felt like Madonna!"

What will not be seen is the torture and repression that will no longer happen. Your argument about killing innocent people is true in every war. Would you have had us not take out Hitler? We certainly killed a lot of innocent people during WWII.

Sadly, you seem to reflect much of the world today ...

In one breath, you say this is the moral and right thing to do ....

Then .... it has a cost ....

So, it shouldn't have been done.

So much of society today wants the moral and right thing to be done but not really enough to pay a price .... they want EASY .... they want FREE ... it is always easiest to do NOTHING.

Well .... to go with a tacky expression ... freedom ain't free !

OK, assuming u have a point, lets check up on some ballpark numbers :

Its generally accepted that 1M died in the last 10 years of Saddam's regime as a result of the regimes abusive policies. That works out to 100K dead per year. That works out to approx 274 dead per day.

The war has been going for about 21 days now. Best available (not final) reports are about 1250 dead so far.

I'm sure you have a calculator handy.
