Scaremongering? I don't think so. You need to read the history of the Russians in Afghanistan. The Russians where trying to make Afghanistan part of their empire and the people knew it. Also the Russian army was often rather pathetic including things like Russian soldiers selling fuel and even weapons to the Mujahadeen, and the enemies of the Russians had massive outside aide, including supplies and training and information from a superpower. Also we have already gotten the job more done then the Russian ever did. Large regions of the country never came under control of the Russians or their local allies. Not everyone in Afghanistan sees us as liberators but it seems a majority do, while the Russians never had more then a small number who saw them that way. Tim

Ted Re...You need to read the history of the Russians in Afghanistan.r... Why? The Russians are about as competent in Grozny as the French are in Rawanda. But Bush said we eradicated the Taliban. You are still buying into the lies, aren't you? Ted, Ted,Ted, telling more whoppers again. Gw never said the Taliban were eradicated. Everybody knows Mullah Omar fled. However, the Taliban don't control the gov. anywhere. I though they were part of the European coalition trying to rebuild Afghanistan. No matter, the UN contingent trying to rebuild Bosnia is pathetic as well, and I know the French have fked that one up. The Russians spent billions trying to subjegate the Afghans.....and they couldn't. Its one of the many reasons why the USSR fell. Well, there you have it. The difference is the US just liberated the Afghans, and left the Europeans there to ruin the rebuilding, and might I say, they are doing a good job. The real war has just begun and this is where ole Bush has no patience. Getting control over Iraq will be a major feat.** Good one. You are the one without patience. My bet is that Gw will rebuild Iraq right down to our last dollar, just to prove you, and the skeptics wrong.
