WPLJ is too old even for me to remember the group. The Thunderbird song was off one of Billy Joe Shaver's earlier albums. Same album that contained the great lines:
"I sat on the bed
With a gun to my head.
And very nearly ended it all.
But I came to senses
Before I got Kilt
And shot a few holes in the wall.
Now I'm thinkin' about crankin'
My raggedy old truck up
And headin' myself into town.
I'm thinkin' 'bout raisin'
So much damned Hell,
I'll die before I live it on down.
It's my life and no wife
Of mine's gonna tell me
I can't go and have me some fun.
So before that ol' heifer
Gets back from Waco.
Bet your sweet ass I'll be gone."
