There are many voices for peace in the ME. But Gandhi was opposing the British, Nelson was opposing the oppressive white South Africans (and SA is much worse off since it has turned over, imo- hence the danger of change that doesn't work out the way you want it to), and MLK was also fighting white/black prejudice. A person like Gandhi or MLK or Mandela, will probably be against US, because they would see us as oppressive. We don't have to BE oppressive (at least not in our opinion) to be perceived that way.

Who do you think the Islamic countries are being oppressed by? If you think they are oppressed by their own rulers, you aren't really looking for a Gandhi or an MLK or a Mandela- you are looking for a Washington, or a Lenin or a Mao, or a Marat/Robspierre. And, imo, only Washington worked out well.
