Do you think the US should have engaged the Germans in more diplomacy before entering the European theatre in WW2? You know, give them a few decades of negotiations, and then decide whether to attack Germany (there would be no Europe after a few decades) in the 1960s? If that's your belief, there probably would never have been any Beatles, and THAT would have been a crime against humanity!

Do you think the US should have given North Korea more diplomacy before invading the Korean peninsula in 1950? How many decades?

We've had four decades of diplomacy with Cuba, and members of that country's population have been trying to escape to the US for decades. Cuba's regime has produced a life without freedom for TWO WHOLE GENERATIONS of Cuban people. If the US had just invaded Cuba in 1960 and tossed Castro out of there and installed a democratic representative Cuban government you think the place would be better or worse than it is now?? We might even have gotten some Cuban beatles instead of having to settle for that movie The Havana Social Club or whatever it was called.

Problem with your thinking is you assume the status quo is always preferable to the horrors of war. That may be true during the actual 3 months of war where countless people are getting killed, but if you compare 10 years of dictatorship with three months of war and 9.75 years of democracy you should choose the latter in most cases. Ask the people at the end of the 3 months of war and 9.75 years of democracy what they think and you'll see that they agree with me.
