They do prepare them in advance. I often enjoy watching WSJ front page articles morph as the market bounces from say 9 to 11am. They retain similar wording, but change key sentences or even just key words. Sometimes "Stocks were strong at the open because of A" becomes "Stocks were weak at the open despite A", etc.

Instead it should say "Stocks were strong/weak, and we have no clue why".
