"Bush more than any prsident has needed war to distract us from our bigger problems."

Ah, obfuscation, lies & distortions from AS. How typical.

Have you forgotten 9/11? Have you forgotten Resolution 1441?

You seem distracted & worried AS. The BS meter near you has
registered its' highest possible reading tonight.

It's not why we were there! WHAAAA!!! It's not why we were there!!! WAAAA!

Hells bells man, it's doesn't matter to farts in the wind why we were there...what matters is that the Iraqi people are liberated and we have opened up a channel to true democracy in the middle east. In 10 years we might look back on this as the greatest event to ever take place in the middle east. I know one thing though...those people are going to be some kind of happy when they get to live like citizens instead of slaves.

Now, why don't you hop a boat and get your self a ride to Iraq and go tell those people that you didn't want them liberated yet...that you wanted some inspectors to sniff around a few more years while the plastic shredder was running full blast. Maybe they will understand. I sure don't.

You keep saying "we". Will you say "we" when the troops come home, or will you change to "the Bush administration?"

Since it's about oil, let me ask you; what do you think will (or could, or might) happen when King Fahd dies?

Ah, yes, the liberal argument about the alleged liberal agenda. The war is now a "distraction" and was "optional".

...for YOU, AS, for YOU. For you and your comrades, yes, it was a distraction and optional. Not so much for the Marines that got shot and died today, but for you, I will accept your premise that the war is a distration and optional.

By the way, I note with some amusement that two weeks ago you said here, in print, that the United States had "no reason" to attack someone that had "not attacked us first", and now your tune has changed and the war is "justified". A cynic might infer that your entire basis for discussion is a shallow and emotional one which lacks any basis in fact or reality, but I shall not.

I say again, even though it is quite obvious that you are purposefully avoiding the truth, that it would have been political suicide for President Bush to even START the process of the war, let alone go through with it DESPITE public disapproval (which, curiously, has turned into 90% approval now; obviously either by total accident since Bush is a moron or thanks to Tom Dachle, Howard Dean, and the FAMOUS COMBAT VETERAN JOHN KERRY) if he had not had solid, concrete empirical evidence of a very real threat to YOU and ME. Please, please try and understand that. It would have been the stupidest thing he could possibly have done had he not had proof. NOBODY in the White House would have gone along with it, NOBODY.

This is not difficult to understand, it has nothing to do with Democrats and Republicans. Bush had proof. Solid proof. (Which, by the way, begs a question about President Clinton's knowledge, but Slick is gone, God bless him.)

As to your lame generality about our "bigger problems" (the premise of which I disagree with, since national security kinda maybe trumps everything else in my most humble opinion) perhaps we can have a sensible dialog about the economy and how to properly address it.

I'll let you start. If you wish to discuss what happens after the Marines stop killing guys in Iraq, we can talk about that. What do you think is the best way to handle the interim governmental issues? How do you think the government should be turned over to the Iraqis?

Or, we can discuss the economy...what do you think are the most important issues relating to the economy? Once you define them, we can debate it.

Please try and be specific, I enjoy this, and it's more fun when you are more sensible. Thanks. (BTW, I know Howard Dean personally, and will be happy to introduce you...well, maybe I won't.)

I'd like to point out something about what you refer to as a 'diversion'.

If in fact this war was created by GWB as a diversion to take my mind off the horrible economy as you contend, then it would follow that he either owns or controls Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, since all have failed to report anything about the diversion you suggest. This is why I suggest you run for you life, it's a conspiracy, and Geraldo is after you.
