John,

Why Iraq?

1. It isn't about Iraq. It's about Saddam and those who supported him.

1. Saddam's has used WMD's against enemy soldiers and his own citizens.

2. At the conclusion of the previous conflict, Saddam promised to eliminate all WMD's and to prove it to the world.

3. He didn't do either.

4. Verbal and economic persuasion failed to convince him to comply.

Re: "If he had them, he would have to weaponize them"

He already has.

Re: Smuggle them into the US?

We have very long and very leaky borders.

Re: Find someone to handle them, arm them and set them off?

Money was unlimited and suicidally motivated US hating individuals are unfortunately already in abundance.

Getting rid of Saddam and his boys means removing the WMD's he already had and preventing him from spending more stolen billions developing nuclear WMD's .

It's not at all a huge stretch for me to believe our real policy and justification was self-defense. As I said, liberating an oppressed people is a side benefit. A family vendetta is total nonsense.

You will have your opportunity again to express your dissatisfaction with the current administration in another couple of years.

I am certain that the threat of terrorism is real - not an illusion. What will it take to get you to perceive that? Another 9-11 or worse? How often is non-domestic terrorism acceptable? Nothing in 19 months is great. Once every ten years? How about never?

We will live with the ramifications of the last two years for the rest of our lives. You are correct in saying that we have different feelings about the future. I for one am very glad we stood up to the threat this regime was to the world before they did something really bad by a factor or 10 or 100 or 1000 compared to 9-11. Appeasement didn't work in the 30's and wasn't working now. The application of force was necessary. Hopefully others who might be considering terror against the USA will have learned an important lesson.
