>>well, what was the point<<

I dunno. Re: the succession of flags on the head of the statue, could be that in some studio somewhere the Wag the Dog team came up with a carefully choreographed script, or could be that the people on the scene were making it up as they went along. Try this. No, not right. Try that. I buy the latter. Grunts on the ground don't read FADG, don't know or don't care and don't know why they should care.

Re: going after Saddam -- is that what you're asking? I gave 28 reasons in a post a few weeks ago, some good, some bad. It's like the old fable of the blind men describing the elephant. The guy who grabs the tail says an elephant is like a rope. The guy who grabs the trunk says an elephant is like a giant snake. The guy who touches the sides says an elephant is like a wall.

WMD/terrorism/oppression/stability/democracy/oil/revenge/guilt/etc.

Giving the finger to the first available Arab leader would be number 29 on my list. But I think we gave the finger to Arafat first.

Re: Lieutenant conflating Saddam and 9/11. I don't think he reads FADG either. He's probably no more enlightened than the famous Arab street. That's why we spend so much time here, arguing, hoping it rubs off.
