To: Barry Grossman who wrote (174073 ) 4/10/2003 6:24:49 PM From: Road Walker Respond to of 186894 Barry, You seem to forget that 9/11 wasn't the work of HS, it wasn't the work of any state. No state is dumb enough to launch a terrorist attack on the US. And what we are doing is only going to increase the number of "suicidally motivated US hating individuals". Can we stop terrorism? Certainly not by attacking Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Syria and whoever else is considered the current bad player. That only makes things worse. The "my country right or wrong" thing works for some people in other counties just as well as it works for some people in this country. Christians/Jews attacked Muslems/Arabs. They will want to strike back at America. re: I am certain that the threat of terrorism is real - not an illusion. What will it take to get you to perceive that? Another 9-11 or worse? How often is non-domestic terrorism acceptable? Nothing in 19 months is great. Once every ten years? How about never? A lot more Americans have died in the war than have died from terrorism since 9/11. It's always difficult to argue that something won't happen in the future. You can't prove it, anything could happen. 9/11 was imprinted in our psyche, the hugely painful images will be with us forever. It's a normal human response to project a one time event, and expect it to repeat. If you get hit by lightening and survive, you will always be afraid of lightening, even though the odds of getting hit are still very remote. Maybe we will get another huge terrorist attack, but if so, I doubt that it will be carried out or sponsored by a state. It's more likely that we will get smaller attacks, though even that doesn't seem to be happening. John
