I respect their view, but I see it as so much pussy footing that would have layed the Iraqi people to waste for years.

It was clearly a surprise to me to see the hold that Saddam had on his people. When the cities in the south were liberated the reaction was originally unenthusiastic as people still feared him. I now believe that there was virtually zero chance that this situation could have been resolved peacefully anytime in the next 30 years.

It is a great insult to hit someone on the head with a shoe (think of it along the lines of you are dirt and I walk over you).

>>They're not antiliberation, rather they believe they hold a higher ideal by putting "proper process" or "procedure" above all else. I respect their view, but I see it as so much pussy footing that would have layed the Iraqi people to waste for years.<<

I travel in both the academic and Bronx boyhood friend circle. My academic friends were overwhelmingly against the war, while my Bronx friends, many of whom are quite liberal (as am I), were for the invasion. IMO, the difference was that in growing up in the Bx., and knowing murderers and thugs, we knew that reason couldn't work with Saddam. My academic friends had sheltered backgrounds. They thought "proper process" was important. I just laughed when I thought about applying "proper process" to Gene, also known as the brute who's thumb was close to the size of my wrist. I saw Gene beat someone's face to pulp with a chain. The person was wearing a "Wrangler" patch on his jeans and didn't belong to the Wrangler gang that claimed exclusive rights to the patch. Everyone in the BX. knew several Gene types. "Procedure" indeed!
