Ken,
Pro war folks certainly need to temper their enthusiasm but Dowd's audience are folks who were happy to leave sadam in power in the name of containment. For them, this is their fall back position, now that that they have been proved wrong again. First they opposed the sending of the troops and then they said let US troops stay to contain iraq while the UN dithers away with inspections. Now they say Wolfy wants US Sparta. Many of them said initially that both afghanistan and iraq would be quagmires. Now they say that they werent talking about the war but the peace. It never ends. Just as we should be careful not to become sparta, neither do we want to go back to the days where the perception of the US was as a paper tiger. So there may be more trouble ahead. Hopefully our military presence in the area will deter stupid decisions from some of the regimes there. Mike

very well said. I'm even feeling the hawkishness of the 'flush of victory'....

It was a disgusting cheap shot.

Iraq is the only war I envision, the only war I thought necessary and, unless provoked, the only war I will support.

Yesterday was the first truly hopeful day I have experienced since September 11 and the best Maureen Dowd can do is sneer and tell me to wipe the blood from my mouth.

She is a pathetic hateful person with no sense of decency or occasion.
