Yes, it is an awful shame that journalist were killed. I would love to believe that American soldiers didn't fire the shot. The fact remains that these soldiers are in a hostile environment, attracting deadly fire and have to make split decisions which might well result in their own deaths.

Anyone in Baghdad other than Iraqis and coalition soldiers (read that journalists) had to know that the potential existed that they would be in harms way. They made a conscious choice to be there despite the peril.
