The strange thing is that one of the Shiite clerics was a (former?) Saddam supporter and the other was a returning exile who had been trying to get people to rise up against Saddam. The idea was to try and bring the two sides together by having the two formally opposed clerics bury the axe. The crowd decided to bury the axe in both of them. Go figure...
