But he was a damn good reporter. As I, and people like Dowd, have told you. The interesting part of that, Bill, is that I've never read his reportial work, save the few pieces that were posted recently. I did not read him during the Clinton years all that much. I found his pieces in The New Yorker reasonable but not spectacular. Always thought Elizabeth Drew did that work better. But Kelly was fine. I don't recall him as being particularly hard on the Clintons. Howell Raines certainly was. The Kelly I've disliked has been his columns in The Washington Post for the past however long he has been writing them.
