USPS Refuses To Mail Christian Material To Kuwait

POSTED: 2:15 p.m. EDT April 10, 2003

LENOIR, N.C. -- The father of a soldier stationed in Kuwait is threatening to sue postal officials for refusing to mail his shipment of Christian materials.

Jack Moody of Lenoir said that when he tried to mail his son a Christian comic and a book of Bible verses, he was told that U.S. Postal Service regulations prohibit shipment to Muslim nations of "any matter containing religious materials contrary to Islamic faith."

The Rutherford Institute said it may file a federal lawsuit on Moody's behalf contending that the postal restriction violates his free speech and religious rights. The institute's president, John Whitehead, said the regulation is unconstitutional because it respects one religion over others.
