>>"No cure" for SARS means that if you come down with it, there is no specific medication which can be given to cure it.<<

that is NOT the case in China. close to 80% of patients are cured by a combination of Western, and Chinese herbal medicine. A lot of Chinese doctors DISAGREE that SARS caused by a single virus. And that may very well be true, at least in case of Chinese patients. Because the combination of steroid, antibiotics, and herbal medicine can get rid of SARS completely. maybe some of them fought off the disease due to their immune system (or enhanced immune system by some herbal medicine), but most of them also with the help of steroid and antibiotics. There is a doctor who has recovered from SARS, wrote an article, but too bad it is in Chinese only. Basically, what he said is steroid and antibiotics (increased volume at the right moment) helped to save him in the most dangerous period.

But then again, it probably isn't strategically that important whether there's a cure. For 97% of people, the "cure" is not to start out in bad health and to wait a week or so for their own body to fix the problem.

Since this virus is no worse than common flu, my impression is that panic and hysteria are the biggest practical problems it causes.
