I don't like the Hang Seng very much from a trading perspective. When I have open positions, I don't even look at the last digit. Bids and asks are much like in the S&P (to a smaller extent DJ) automatic quotations from the cash market.

Fundamentally, given the broadly bearish tenor, the Nikkei making lows every day and with SARS still unresolved there is little what should move up the HSI save for a little technical bounce.
It is still amazing how much it lost from the beginning of the year where it traded near 10000.

From a technical perspective it is a nice trader, with more downside, and the 8500 support falling out.
