The arguments is against human nature which can be summarized by: "victory finds a hundred fathers but defeat is an orphan" This is conceptually correct I believe. But it isn't the only reason we won't see all those bin Ladens. The notion that 100s of bin Ladens would be created is founded on a misunderstanding of the reasons for Mideastern anti-Americanism. Even though leaders of Arab nations have made this statement, it is based on a false notion that this is all about the Palestinian conflict. Or some other proxy. Basically, these people are jealous. They want what we have. They want dignified lifestyles. They want wealth. They want security. And if they can't have it, we're not going to have it, either. This is also what the liberals don't understand about this war: That is, getting rid of Saddam is going to stem the tide of anti-Americanism. Believe it or not, you can already see signs of it. Al Jazeera, terribly anti-American, literally turned over a new leaf the day the statue fell. There was a visible change in demeanor. Are they still pro-Arab? Of course, it will take time. The people in the White House are extremely smart, and have extremely smart people advising them. These "advisors" correctly concluded that getting rid of Saddam would create a vaccuum in the MidEast that could be readily filled with a democracy, and once it has been established it will spread like wildfire. Not because we insist, but because they want it. Once things stablize in Iraq, I believe we'll quickly see Iran make significant moves toward democracy, and even Saudi Arabia will make tiny steps. Having eliminated Saddam, the borders are open in that region and Iraq may well be exporting democracy faster than anyone would have believed. Five years, ten?
