There is also the lesser known Corollary to Hofstadter's Law:
Everything takes longer than you think it will, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law. <g>

I met Doug in the 80's up at Stanford's Artificial Intelligence Lab where (in a previous incarnation) I was a visiting scholar. Fascinating guy. (Incidentally his father won the Nobel prize for physics).
