Next comes the part they call the quagmire.

It seems to me that previous empires supported their expansion through plunder of the wealth and resources that they acquire through conquest. If we really are different, and are doing this for the Iraqi democracy and not our own imperialist enrichment :

Who's going to pay for this ? The American taxpayer ? What about if/when we expand the costs by undertaking the neocon wetdream of conquering the whole mideast ?

Who will benefit ? In either case, mainly the big corporates to which shrub & co. give the oil, reconstruction, and military contracts, I'd guess. Paid for either through tax dollars or stolen oil.
