John, what similar points does Ken Pollack make in his book? That "everyone does this?" Everyone? Everyone who has a news bureau in whatever area of the world they are reporting, so that the "real" story is hidden for years?

Is that the right thing to do?

Why does Enron, and Global Crossing pop into my head here...except they didn't participate in killing people...just killing individuals financial future.

And yes, I said "killing people..." By hiding the truth, keeping the news service open, acting as if Saddam was a great guy, it allowed Saddam to continue getting more and more "all powerful" in his demented mind. So more and more people got killed.

If this is at all the "normal" thing, WHY wouldn't the companies that knew such terrible information report it to the CIA?

I read it this morning in the Times. It is terrible. But it is a point that has been made often. Ken Pollack makes similar points in his book. Whatever one's political views, if one did not take this into account, it's somewhat irresponsible thinking.
