I heard on Euronews last night that European countries were pooling efforts for a unified military. Quite a few countries have agreed but the UK is not in the game.

I tend to agree, although I am not so sure about not wishing to have a strong military part.

The problem with the NeoCon/PNAC view of the world is that it becomes a self-fulfilling paranoid prophecy. In their actual wording, not only they want to maintain US supremacy (which I can argue against but at least I understand) but they have actually stated they want to achieve this by beating down everyone else so that no one "would even aspire" to increase their position to a level that could challenge US.

You don't have to have a psychology degree to see this mentality will push the world to gang up against America.
