China could clothe the entire world

April 11 2003 at 05:42AM

Hong Kong - China last year made enough clothes to give four items of clothing to every person on earth, a news report said Friday.

The National Garment Association says factories turned out 20 billion items of clothing in 2002, the South China Morning Post reported.

Overseas garment sales generated 400 billion yuan (just less than R400-billion) last year, 12 per cent of the nation's total export figure, the association said. - Sapa-DPA
