If no WMD are found, then the original reason given for the war is invalid. It trashes our 'preemptive strike' policy. If there are no WMD, then Iraq was no threat, and the world concludes that America is indeed imperialistic.

That is why we are searching so viligantly. I believe we will find evidence, but maybe not a 'smoking gun' that everyone will accept. But, there's a lot of looking still to be done.
