To: benwood who wrote (98493 ) 4/28/2003 12:32:37 PM From: Skeeter Bug Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 132070 ben, you bring up some good points. one aspect of freedom is that people are free to hurt us before the state can take action. to try and prevent that is to take away a LOT of freedom - in that sense, the hijacker/murderers have already won. i agree there. i can see why your concerns re" bush exist, however, imho, the effort of the people w/b better spent holding bush to what he has claimed... 1. to work toward a palestinian state and to offer them the hand of friendship. 2. to help iraq create its own govt that respects its own people and set up a system to protect people when respect is sometimes lost. that demonstration was put on by very few people. but the lack of fight was put on by over 23 million people. they wanted saddam gone and they KNEW it was a GOOD thing. it is a tad bit one sided to point out the casualties of war (very minimal given the operation and our dedication to avoid civilian casualties) while not mentioning all the people who haven't been murdered and tortured b/c saddam is no longer paying monthly wages to people to extract *confessions." no more state sanctioned hot irons on feet. no more boiling water down throats. no more gang rapes and murders of children in front of parents. no more babies being kicked in the head to extract info from their mothers. btw, this info has come from people with deformed feet and heads as proof these events occurred - for the very cynical types out there. let's look at both sides of the equation. wrt to the oil connections, i still argue we never get our money back - or even close. $60 billion is about our cost - or more. i don't see us getting that kind of money out of iraq's oil. i guess it is possible bush pulled th triggr in iraq for the sole purpose of adding a couple bucks to haliburton... but that doesn't make much sense as he coulda thrown much less money haliburton's way to boast their stock price. now, you know i support bush in the war - so far, anyway. i HATE his BS trickle down jobs program crap. if tax cuts are about jobs programs, then trickle up is much more effective. give the less fortunate money and they buy goods and services. increased demand creates jobs and profits trickle up. rich folks buy stock and much less happens in the economy - much less trickles down. not to mention we already have oversupply conditions and what we need now is increased demand, not increased investment. someone needs to smack bush and his faulty logic around a little. instead, i hear dems trying to find reasons why iraq may be worse off today than under saddam.
