I've been trying to determine how much is enough for safety

I also use ZA Pro. I have read that the built-in firewall from Microsft is defeated easily and doesn't afford any outgoing protection so I disabled mine. A second line of defense is never a bad thing though.

ZA Pro can be configured to stop most popups although I don't use that feature. I use a standalone popup killer called PopUp Manager that does a great job. I think I have seen less than a handful of popups in the couple of months I have been using it. Lately I have been using Mozilla as my browser of choice and it has blocked all popups I have encountered.

I'm not sure about the unpacking utility you are talking about with NAV 2003. I don't use it. Anti-virus software will protect you from some trojans and worms. Search on the thread for mr.marks posts concerning anti trojan programs. He is much more familiar with them than me.

There is a difference between hardware firewalls and software. Hardware is best when configured properly but most folks like to back it up with a software program. If I used a NAT (hardware) firewall I would also run ZA behind it. All this is just my opinion.
