>> Also, Jewish tradition says if your mother was Jewish, you are Jewish. << i'm fully aware of this. that is why i referred to israel's law of return. so how do you reconcile this with the statement of convenience used by jews that they are only defined by religion? you just said that jewish tradition says you are jewish if you are born to a jewish mother. what has that got to do with religion? nothing! i'll give you a perfect example to illustrate this. remember that guy michael newdow, public enemy #1 who sued on behalf of his daughter to ban the phrase "under God" from the pledge? his mother is jewish. therefore, according to rabbinical law, he is a jew. but he also refers to himself as an atheist. so whenever i point out to people that like so many other jews this newdow wants to ban all public references to God, inevitably there are always some who protest, "but he's not a jew! he's an atheist!" go tell it to israel, who would grant him full right of return in a heartbeat because of his jewish mother. jewish religion and culture is based on complete hypocrisy and double-speak. one standard for the jews, another standard for everyone else. you will come to understand this the more you research and observe jewish culture.
